Tae-Sun Kim HeadshotDr. Tae-Sun Kim is the inaugural Director of Multicultural Affairs at Davidson College, with a faculty appointment in the Department of Anthropology. She has over 13 years of experience in the areas of minority student recruitment, retention and achievement in higher education. Prior to Davidson College she held leadership, teaching, research and academic advising positions at Syracuse University, Lansing Community College and Michigan State University. She has directed a coed multicultural retention and academic achievement program for first-year college students, designed a heritage and support program for Native American college students, founded and advised numerous Asian Pacific American student and professional organizations, and in graduate school was an academic advisor to at-risk high school seniors in an intensive college summer bridge program.

Kim received her BA in Anthropology from Lawrence University, and her MA and Ph.D. in Anthropology from Michigan State University. She was a Fulbright Scholar to Zimbabwe and a recipient of the Minority Competitive Doctoral Fellowship at Michigan State University. She is a member of the Southern Korean Presbyterian Church of Charlotte, North Carolina and has been an advocate, translator and reunification assistant for transnationally adopted Koreans for many years. Kim was born in Seoul, South Korea but considers Portland, Oregon her hometown. She and husband Andre Davis are enjoying their new home, Uptown Charlotte.
